ANZAC Day Service Our ANZAC Day service is scheduled for this coming Friday. A decision has been made to move this important service to the beginning of term 2. It is customary that students in the Dingoes class bake ANZAC cookies for the event. This cannot be effectively achieved on Friday with canteen in operation. Consequently this event has thus been moved to Wednesday 2 May. Please put this in your diaries for 2pm. Ron Hoenig MP Visit This coming Thursday we are to have the pleasure of our state member for the NSW parliament Ron Hoenig MP visiting the school. Scholastic Book Club Ordering This Monday the first issue of the 2018 Scholastic Book Club will go home with your children. Scholastic are a company that publishes and provides books aimed at children and schools. Their book club program provides a published catalogue that goes home at St Peters six times a year. The issues contain items that can be ordered. Those items are then sent to the school and distributed to students. Premiers Reading Challenge This week the Premiers Reading Challenge opens for all students. St Peters believes strongly in all students taking part in the challenge and welcomes the opportunity for students to borrow books from the school library, the local library or also from book collections at home. Parent Teacher Interviews The school runs parent teacher interviews twice a year. These occur at the end of term 1 and terms 3. We do this to provide a point of feedback between the school, students and parents in the middle of a semester of learning. As school reports are released at the end of the term, this allows a discussion to take place that is proactive for learning. Student in Kindergarten and year 1 will be able to borrow one book this semester and those in years 2 to 6 - two books. Library bags are required. Welcome to 2018

Classes 2018 Classes commence this Monday for year 1 to 6 students and after the Best Start Assessments are completed kindergarten students will start school. We have over 30 new enrolments starting this year and assuming that all students present to school we are expecting over 110 students at the beginning of the year. We will thus be forming 5 classes. PSSA 2017 Review This past Friday was our final day of PSSA for 2017 and what a way to finish with a win for both our junior and senior softball teams. It has been a fantastic year for sport at St Peters Public School. This was our first year competing in winter PSSA, regular training sessions were held before school, we competed in the first gala day for our zone, two sporting clinics were held at school and a fantastic number of students competed at zone carnivals in 2017. Chess - Additional Opportunities to Play Chess was a great success on Wednesday with nearly 34% of the school participating in chess. Two teachers from Sydney Chess Academy attended the event and the group was split into a couple of groups based on their familiarity with the game. On Tuesday and Thursday next week students at the beginning of school from 8:30am to 9:00am will be given an opportunity to play chess in the Dingoes classroom off the main playground. 2018 Resource Allocation Model funding

In October 2017, all NSW public schools will receive a 2018 Planned School Budget Allocation Report. The report will assist with the management of the total budget delivered to schools through the Resource Allocation Model (RAM). The Resource Allocation Model (RAM) methodology distributes funding based on the individual needs of students and schools. This gives schools greater flexibility to make local decisions. Kindy Orientation 2018 starts this Thursday This Thursday is the first of our Kindergarten orientation sessions for students starting next year. Students should be in the playground by 9:30am. At that point they will be taken to class and undertake a typical morning session. Year 6 students will be helping until 10:45am when students may be collected from the playground.
